The black sand beach at Vík í Mýrdal.
Vík lies directly beneath the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, part of the Katla volcano. There is some speculation that the whole town could be destroyed (except a lone church on a hill) when Katla next erupts (it is overdue).
Apparently Vik is also the site of the fictional Hanso Foundation’s Vik Institute in the TV series Lost.
